Shows the {{dialog|Search}} dialog at the bottom of the window, also called the {{dialog|Search bar}}.
After entering search conditions, searches for specified {{field|Search|Find}} phrase within the document.

{{tip}} Several settings in the {{dialog|Settings}} dialog can alter, what phrase and options are preloaded into the {{dialog|Search}} dialog upon invoking. See chapter [[Search page]] of the {{dialog|Settings}} dialog.

{{field|Search|Match case}} option can be used to {{defined|match case}} upon searching. By default, character case is ignored upon searching.

{{field|Search|Whole words}} option can be used to check for {{defined|word boundaries}} upon searching, i.e. a phrase is located in the document only if no {{defined|word letters}} are found directly before and after the phrase, and the phrase begins and ends with {{defined|word letters}}.

{{version}} Prior to version 6.0, only characters directly before and after the phrase were checked. Since version 6.0, phrase beginning and end is checked as well. So, if searching for whole words, the phrase itself must start and end with a {{defined|word}}.

{{field|Search|Escapes}} option can be used to allow entering newlines and Tab characters into the {{field|Search|Find}} phrase. Use {{string|\n}} sequence to encode a newline, use {{string|\t}} to encode a Tab character, and use {{string|\\}} to encode a simple backslash ({{string|\}}) character wherever a confusion with other escapes could arise.

Note: A newline escape ({{string|\n}}) matches any kind of newline (Windows, Unix, Mac). A newline escape matches exactly one newline, i.e. use {{string|\n\n}} in order to match two consecutive newlines, etc.

{{field|Search|RegExps}} option can be used to turn the {{feature|Regular expressions}} engine on. When {{feature|Regular expressions}} are enabled, {{field|Search|Find}} is parsed as a ''regular expression pattern''. See chapter [[Regular expressions]] for more details on supported regular expressions syntax.

Note: Since regular expressions can take a long time to find match, {{hotkey|Esc}} can be used to interrupt a search.

{{field|Search|Wrap around}} option can be used to allow searching even beyond the edge of the document. If the search encounters the end or the beginning of the document, it automatically wraps around the document edge and continues from the beginning or the end of the document respectively.

{{version}} Prior to version 6.0, this option was available within the {{dialog|Settings}} dialog. It has been moved to {{dialog|Search}} dialog in version 6.0 for convenience.

{{field|Search|Use 2nd search}} option can be used to switch between entering {{feature|primary search}} and {{feature|secondary search}}. Whenever searching, search phrase and search options are automatically remembered into either {{feature|primary search}} or into {{feature|secondary search}}, and can be re-used later, for example by {{feature|Find Next}} (using {{feature|primary search}}) or {{feature|Look for Next}} (using {{feature|secondary search}}) respectively. Most available search commands are coupled this way, e.g. {{feature|Find Previous}} and {{feature|Look for Previous}}, {{feature|Find Selected}} and {{feature|Look for Selected}}, {{feature|Find Later}} and {{feature|Look for Later}}, etc.

{{version}} Prior to version 6.0, this option was not available and the {{dialog|Search}} dialog was restricted to the {{feature|primary search}} only.

Buttons {{button|Search|Next}} and {{button|Search|Previous}} can be used to search downwards or upwards from the current position. Several hotkeys are available in the {{dialog|Search}} dialog as well as described below.

Using {{feature|primary search}} or {{feature|secondary search}} corresponding to option {{field|Search|Use 2nd search}}:
* {{hotkey|Enter}} — Search downwards. ({{dialog|Search}} dialog part only)
* {{hotkey|Ctrl+Enter}} — Search upwards. ({{dialog|Search}} dialog part only)
* {{hotkey|Shift+Enter}} — Search downwards from the beginning of the document.
* {{hotkey|Ctrl+Shift+Enter}} — Search upwards from the end of the document.

Using {{feature|primary search}} directly:
