Yes. In the Settings dialog you can choose to create backup files every time you save a file. It will rename the old file (if it exists) to a backup file whenever you save your document.
You can optionally also keep multiple numbered backups if you'd like. Or you can specify a special Temp folder for all your backups. Or you can make backups hidden.
And you can have them automatically deleted once the save operation safely finishes and the new file is fully written to the disk, as an extra insurance against disk failures.
