Check Updates

Connects to the application homepage and checks for available updates. Conveniently allows to open the official download page upon new version.

Tip: Result of the last Check for Updates is also displayed in the Status Bar as a hint from time to time.

See also /u Check for Updates command line parameter.

AutoCheck for Updates

If Check for updates setting is turned on, AutoCheck for Updates attempts to check for available updates each week. The check is performed on background by connecting to the application homepage upon launching the application. Conveniently allows to open the official download page upon new version. Otherwise, it does not prevent the user from using the application or any document in any way.

Tip: Result of the last AutoCheck for Updates is also displayed in the Status Bar as a hint from time to time.

Note: Weekly checks for updates require the Config to be writable in order to assess passing weeks. If the Config is read-only for any reason, the checks for updates are performed on sparse random basis to prevent a new check each time the application is started.

See also /u Check for Updates command line parameter.

Utility Info (Shift+F1)

Shows the Utility Info dialog with runtime information about current memory usage statistics.

Trivia: Any text within TED Notepad is seamlessly buffered in a tree-like structure. This knack supports prompt responses even on huge files. However, there is a small price; a bit of extra memory is necessary to maintain such an auto-balancing structure. Fortunatelly, the amount of extra memory required is insignificant compared to the amount of text it can support. Nevertheless, it may be interesting to know how much it is exactly, along with info about what's in the undo queue. And some other things.
